The first thing I did in the library is arranging the bookcases. Before I arrange the bookcases, I thought it just likes a piece a cake for arranging bookcases. But I know I’m wrong for this work. I have to order those books carefully according the serial number of books. For me, this work is required concentration and patience. All of the interns in this picture book library are studying in YUNTECH, so we have many common topics to talk and get more familiar with others fast. During the first week we work together, I know each intern has her specialty and many interns have their own ideas, so we went on with the schedule smoothly. Interpreting international picture books is a happy work for me, because I take Japanese and Korean as my elective subject, I not only can use the language what I learn but also can read the picture books at the same time. Interpreting can improve my foreign language vocabulary, just like learning by doing. Hoping that I can improve my foreign language except English through interpreting picture books and have good performances on the projects in the future two months.

In second week of my internship, I had got used to everything and tried as hard as I can to absorb something new and improve myself. This week was colorful. A lot of activities for me to participate in and learn from them. One of an activity did give me a useful lecture.

Every Wednesday, there is a group of volunteers will come to Picture Book Library and tell children interesting stories. The group is composed of mothers who come from good and warm families. That is what I wish in my future! If I had children in the future, I would take them to that kind of activity. And even better, I would like to join the group and tell stories vividly for children. Dreaming I can be a good story teller, I started listened to the stories very carefully, hoping that I can learn some tips from them.

This time, two volunteers told stories for children; however, the way they told is totally different. First volunteer used TV to present pictures and told a story with a picture book held on her hands. She stood and faced the children, telling stories. It was a pity that she was a little bit far away from children. Few interactions happened between them. On the other hand, the second volunteer sat closely in front of the children, telling stories emotionally. She even changed her sound when she acted as a grandpa. In the end, both asked children questions and gave them beautiful stickers. Good idea. The questions they asked were meaningful. Some children may answer them wrong or bad intentionally. (Oh, they were quite naughty!) The volunteers still patiently leaded them to answer correctly. What a great mother who takes other children as hers.

After the activity, I thought about my future. I love reading and I also like children. Besides, I come up with being a story writer and make pop-ups in my future. With so many kinds of activities and our own Pop-ups Exhibit, I really get plenty of ideas about what I am going to do in the future. In the rest day of my internship, what will go on and inspire me? I really look forward to a rich future and appreciate every moment I stay in the library.

It was such a special experience to be a storyteller. In this week, I made a big progress on my personality and skill of storytelling. I was so proud I can be a storyteller during my internship.

An activity really helps me get ready to tell stories smoothly in front of children. This activity is called "Read Me a Story". We aim to actively find children and ask them if they want us to tell them a story. At the beginning, I felt very shy but gradually I started feeling interested when reading books. I told stories more and more energetic. In the end, I was surprised there were more and more children gathered around me, which made me feel a sense of achievement.

I even helped my partner successfully get her foot in the door. One day, we also played online picture book video and waited for children to come to the library. No child came at first so we didn't have opportunity to read them stories. Finally, here came a child holding a book and read alone. Actually, it's my partner's turn to be in charge of Read Me a Book. However, she was too shy to get close to the child and read for her. I decided to take the lead, speaking to the child. The child was excited when I asked what he was reading. He said it was a book about farm but it was written in English so he could not read. It was a high time for us to show our specialty. I winked at my partner, giving her a hint. She seemed to make up her mind and talk to the child finally. Gradually, they got along with each other well. I am happy my partner has overcome her fear to talk to children.

After this week, it is nothing scared for me to tell a story no matter in front of publics or one-by-one. I had improved my shy personality. Still, I have to keep sharpening the storytelling skill so that I can attract more children to participate in. Watch other storyteller can give me ideas of storytelling. In the future, if I have time, I won’t miss any storytelling time given by professional specialist.
