Nowadays, even with advanced technology, the importance of humanities is still incomparable. And, it is said that technology always comes from human nature. To pursuit a more advanced world, we must start from the pure human nature—children. There are lots of children in the Douliu Picture Book Library, and I am very thankful of having the opportunity to intern there.

During the internship, I met people of different ages as I expected. I had learned to see the world deeper in a more profound perspective. I helped holding the summer routine activities and the first invited exhibition by the library.

At my first day of internship, after the curator roughly introduced the library, I started to join the activity. It was about teaching children’s song. After settling all the equipment, I stood by the teachers. With adorable animal masks and funny songs, the teachers drew those children’s attention quickly. When some little kids couldn’t focus and kept moving around, the teachers would hold them back. I stood by and watched if there were any kids who were walking too far. I also used camera to record all the activity.

When we need to communicate with other people, we should know their age and role first, and use their languages and ways. Communication doesn’t only mean language, but also body languages and cultures. When we are communicating with a little kid, we may squat at their line of sight, looking direct into their eyes, and draw their attention by cute little props and funny sounds. And we can make big movements to guide them to imitate and learn things. When we are communicating with parents, we should always talk about their children.

In the afternoon, Curator bought me to the basement. There was nothing on the walls and pile of packages on the floor. There was going to have an exhibition—The Transformation of Black. It was the first exhibition invited by the library’s own, so we were not familiar with the process. All we could do was to try with past experience and intuition. After the worker nailed the introduction canvas of the writer, I read the introduction many times. In my opinions, the hosting side should always know their activity better than anyone else, so that we can convey the concept to participants.

At the opening ceremony, the writer shared his story, so I got to know the exhibition better. Black is a simple black dot, but with transformations, it could become anything. It is different from others; the picture book of Black can increase the interaction between paternity and imagination. The writer said,” The easiest thing is actually the hardest thing. It includes complex ideas but with simple appearance.”

In this society, everyone should have their own specialty, and present the essence in a simple way to enlighten more people. Everyone gets a specialty and cooperate together, so we can make a better world.

In my leisure time, I liked to talk with parents or children. Everyone got a story. Only when I heard their story did I know that some of their family was not so perfect. Some children were raised by grandparents or single parent. Some were left in the library because their parents were too busy to take care of them. Some were just fooling around in the library in spite of they got many books around. Without appropriate guide, it was such a pity and a waste.

After the internship, I understand that all the experience is useful. I used to join the club but didn’t know helpful the experience may be. I think I will make the best use of my last time being student.

In the past, most people I met were at my age, but I met different people during the internship. I have learned how to deal with them, and I think it might be useful in the future. I also found the disadvantages of myself, like being shy when I was in front of strangers, or a rush while facing too many kids.

At the end, I was really thankful to Curator for giving me this opportunity. I was benefited a lot by this internship, and know myself better. I will keep working harder to make myself better.
