At first, it was a great honor to intern at the picture book library. I deeply appreciated that the picture book library director could give me the opportunity of interning here. And I also want to thank my senior’s recommendation. After my senior talked about her internship experience and I had a discussion with her, I decided to intern at the picture book library and hoped to had a memorable experience.

首先,我很榮幸可以來到繪本館實習,也很感謝館長給我這個機會。在此,我還想感謝一個人,那就是我的學姊。在學姊分享她的實習經驗以及與她討論過後,我決定來到繪本館實習,期許自己有一個難忘的經驗。

When I was in my sophomore year, I could have been to the picture book library. Our professor asked all the students who took a compulsory subject to tell stories to children and parents at the picture book library. But because I had something important to do, I needed to go home. Therefore I could not go to tell stories to children at the picture book library at that time. I had a sense of loss, because I had prepared this assignment beforehand. But I did not think that one day I would have a chance to intern here and even tell stories to children.

在大二的時候,我本來有機會可以來到繪本館,那是一堂必修課,教授要求我們來到繪本館說故事給小朋友以及爸爸媽媽聽,但是因為那時家裡有事,必須回家一趟,所以就失去了來到繪本館說故事的機會,那時的我很失望,因為事前工作都已經準備好了,但是,沒想到在未來的某一天,我能來到繪本館實習,甚至是說故事給小朋友聽。

Time goes by so quickly, a semester passed. During the internship, I benefited a lot and learned much knowledge which cannot be read in books like how to cooperate harmoniously and how to communicate effectively with superior and colleagues and so on. Maybe after entering the workforce, I will know these things. But now that I have already learned them before I graduate. I believe these experiences will let me become more competitive in the future. Furthermore, I also needed to learn how to have fun, be patient and get along well with children. Because I seldom get on with children, I do not know what they think and what they want to do. I found that it was really difficult for me to do it.

時光飛逝,一學期就這樣過去了。在實習過程中,我學到了很多,而這些是無法從課本中學到的,像是如何與上司以及同事愉快地合作、融洽地相處和進行有效地溝通或許這些在踏入工作職場後能夠學到,但是現在我已經先體驗過了,我相信這些經驗能夠幫助我在未來更具有競爭力。除此之外,由於我很少與小朋友接觸,所以不是很清楚他們在想些什麼、想做什麼,所以,如何愉快且耐心的與小朋友相處對我來說也是一大學問。

In the beginning the other interns and I took the task of venue decoration for an exhibition of washi work by Chen Ling-ling and the other artists. Chen Ling-ling was born in Yunlin, but now she resides in Japan. In recent years she has scored a great success with her washi work in Japan. This year she came to Taiwan with her work for promoting culture exchange. And this exhibition was also hold in conjunction with a DIY craft project for parents to do with their children. Let parents and children produce washi work together and learn more about intangible cultural heritage of Japan.

一開始,我與其他實習生協助繪本館為「日本當代工藝美術作品展」進行場地布置,這次作品展的作者為陳玲玲女士以及數名工藝家。陳玲玲女士為旅居日本的雲林子弟,近年來,其和紙藝術作品於日本備受高度讚揚。今年,她帶著其作品回到臺灣進行文化交流,而活動期間也配合親子DIY體驗手作,讓父母與孩子共同完成和紙藝術作品,藉此也能更加了解日本無形文化遺產。

The next assignment is to help the library director compile lists of picture books. We collected these lists according to different types of awards and prizes, such as Caldecott Medal, Kate Greenaway Medal, Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, Hans Christian Andersen Award, and so on. And we also make book lists in accordance with famous illustrators from Taiwan like Jimmy, Eva Wang, Lai Ma, Liou Zong-huei, and so forth. After we finished this assignment, we understood more about picture books and knew that it was not easy to compile a list. We needed to be more careful and spent time on it.

下一項工作為協助館長彙整所需採購之繪本清單。我們根據不同的國際繪本重要獎項來進行收集資料的動作,像是美國凱迪克獎、英國凱特格林威獎、波士頓環球報號角書獎和國際安徒生繪本大獎等等。而我們也依照臺灣知名原創繪本作者列出清單,例如,幾米、王家珠、賴馬以及劉宗慧等等。在完成這項工作之後,我們更加了解繪本的相關資訊,也發現彙整清單並不是一件容易的事情,是需要花費心思以及時間的。

If we do not cultivate our reading habit, we cannot develop the imagination. If we do not develop the imagination, we cannot explore the world and experience new things. A series of activities was held at the picture book library in response to the World Book Day 2014. Let everyone know reading is very important.

如果我們缺乏閱讀,也就缺乏想像力;如果我們缺乏想像力,也就無法探索世界、體驗新事物。為了響應2014世界書香日,繪本館舉辦了一系列活動,讓大家了解閱讀的重要性。

One of the most impressive activities was to produce handmade hydrangeas. A little girl is in the second grade. She produced a handmade hydrangea without any help. She just asked me to teach her how to write “Happy Mother’s Day” and then she wrote it down on the flowerpot by herself. Because mother’s day was coming, she said that she wants to give her mother the handmade hydrangea as a present. I was deeply touched by her words. Although we did not spend much time together, it is nice to have the chance to meet such a filial girl like her.

其中令我印象深刻的活動為繡球花紙藝DIY。一位小學二年級的小女孩,在沒有其他人的幫助下,自己獨立完成繡球花紙藝DIY,而她唯一要我幫她的是教她如何寫「母親節快樂」這五個字,然後,她自己一筆一畫地寫在花盆上。小女孩跟我說她想要把這個作品當作禮物送給媽媽,因為母親節快到了,我聽到這句話的時候,真的覺得很感動。雖然我們相處的時間不長,但是我很開心能認識這麼一個孝順又乖巧的小女孩。

The last assignment is to record ten picture books and to make them as audiobooks. When I was a freshman, I had recorded the picture book once. I remember that because I had no experience, I spent so much time scanning and recording the picture book. Now that it was still very hard for me to do it, because we needed to note the rising and falling intonation to let the story more vivid, funny, and dramatic. And we also needed to note the pronunciation. The reason we recorded picture books is that readers can read picture books while they listen to audio. By audiobooks, readers can improve their listening and reading. So we have to make sure whether we pronounce words clearly and correctly or not.

最後一項工作為將十本繪本錄製成有聲書。在大一的時候,我曾經錄製過一次,我記得那時候因為沒有經驗,花了很長的時間才完成它。儘管我已經有過一次錄製有聲書的經驗,但是對我來說還是有一定的難度。錄製過程中,我們需要注意聲調的抑揚頓挫,這樣故事聽起來才會生動、有趣且具戲劇性。而另一項需要注意的就是發音,錄製有聲書的主要原因就是讓讀者可以一邊聽著音檔一邊閱讀繪本,藉由有聲書,讀者可以增進聽力以及閱讀能力,所以,我們必須再三確定發音是否正確無誤。

Finally, I want to thank the picture book library director again for giving me a chance to intern at the picture book library. During the internship, I had a most instructive experience and know where I should improve. I will work hard to make up for a lack of ability in order to strengthen my competitive ability. 最後,我想再次感謝館長讓我有機會能夠來到繪本館實習。實習過程中,我真的覺得獲益良多,也清楚了解到自己還有許多需要改進的地方,在未來,我會更加努力來彌補自己能力不足的部分,以增加我的競爭力。謝謝!
