    第一次在繪本館說故事給小朋友聽,不能估計來聽故事的小朋友多不多,但我們準備很多東西要分享給小朋友喔!今天說的故事Inch by Inch這本繪本可以問答的方式來吸引小朋友的注意,每頁的背景幾乎是相同的,作者把每隻動物的特點和細節畫得很生動,充分地吸引觀眾繼續閱讀下去。

It’s the first time that we have told stories to children in Picture Book House. We could not estimate the number of listeners; however, we prepared funny stories, games for the children. “Inch by Inch” is illustrated by Lionni, which background of each page is pretty much the same. The illustrator draws the picture book vividly. The colors in the book make the readers feel at ease and calm, which makes audience focus on the story and keeps their attention.

    剛開始說故事的時候,小朋友會害怕講英文而沒有跟著說英文,但我們鼓勵小朋友,只要答對問題的人,就有一個泡棉圖形,集滿20個就可以換禮物喔!後來,小朋友就很踴躍的搶答,連播故事影片的時候也很認真的在看。

 In the beginning of story time, some of kids were afraid of speaking English. So we encouraged them to try it. If they got right, we would give them the point cards. Twenty points will be changed for special gifts. For the reason, children were enthusiastic about answering the questions.

    我們發現有一位小朋友特別認真,她幾乎每個問題都能答出來。而且故事結束後還問我們下個禮拜有沒有說英文故事,是個想學好英文的認真孩子。

We found that one of the children concentrated full attention on our speaking. Her answers almost were correct. She told us that she would come to listen to the stories next Saturday.

    下午的「媽媽說故事時間」來了好多小朋友,說故事的媽媽以舞蹈、歌聲帶動唱的方式來吸引小朋友注意,和我們說故事的方式大不相同,她們好厲害,能夠成功地讓每位小朋友都動起來。我們從故事媽媽的身上學到好多。

The activity, 媽媽說故事, began in the afternoon, there were a lot of kids coming. The storytellers was different from us, they drew the attention of the children by singing and dancing. We learned how to make the story come alive from storytellers.

    經過這次的說故事活動,我們發現講故事的時間如果太長會導致小朋友專注度下降,所以決定下一次用中文講故事然後再穿插英文單字,這樣小朋友才能在短時間記住,同時也能在時間內把故事講完。

After this activity, we found that if the story time was too long, it would distract kids’ attentions. So we decided to teach them vocabularies first, and then spoke native language and a little English.

依稀記得國小時常常給還在上幼稚園的弟弟講床邊故事,常常都是一本接一本地講到弟弟睡著,而那些一講再講的故事有的甚至還存留在我腦海裡,記憶猶新。這次配合學校的實習課程,來到了斗六繪本館講故事給孩子們聽,英文的故事我常常讀,但是講給孩子們聽這種機會卻是不多,但是這次用英文講故事給孩子們聽卻發現文字過多的段落容易讓孩子們因為聽不懂而分散注意力,所以之後的故事活動就彈性變更為中文帶入英文了,希望再這麼一系列活動下來,能夠增進雲林地區的孩子們對於英文繪本的興趣,在閱讀它的過程當中,不只是看圖,也能看看當中文字並琢磨其中含意。 

 

Still remembering my childhood, talk story to my younger brother, books by books, until he fell asleep. And those stories which I have told many times are still fresh in my memory. To cooperate with our school’s internship course, I finally get chance to tell story to the kids in Yunlin in Douliu Picturebook Library. I often read them, but rarely have chance to tell them to the kids. From today’s experience, I found out that most of the kids are not familiar with English, so the might feel confuse while listening to my English story. Therefore, we use Chinese stories with some English words in the rest of the story activities. Hopefully, the kids can gain more interests in English picturebook after participating in these series of activities. Not only viewing the picture, but consider the meaning between the paragraphs.
